MEET OUR BLACK BELT INSTRUCTORS
Sensei Doug Armstrong
Sensei Doug Armstrong is a 6th dan black belt and is the owner and operator
of The Mountain View Karate Center. Doug Armstrong began his martial arts
training in 1981 within the art of Tae Kwon Do. After joining the United States
Navy he continued his studies at the Okinawan Kempo Karate Dojo and then
eventually trained at a Shaolin Go-Ju Dojo where he earned his first black belt.
Sensei Armstrong began teaching in Hickory in 1992
and finally opened his own martial arts school in
1995. In 2000, he earned the title of black belt
fighting competitor of the year and became the world
champion in the blackbelt breaking division!
In July of 2004 Sensei Doug Armstrong was inducted
into the Sport Karate Hall of Fame.
In December of 2006 he was awarded the rank of 6th dan by his instructor and mentor Hanshi Dean Bottomley.
This rank confers upon him the title of "Shihan" Doug Armstrong.
Mr. Robert Kearns
Mr. Kearns is the lead instructor at the Foothills Dojo. A Catawba
County native, Rob Kearns began training in Ching Sai Do under
Sensei Doug Armstrong in 1995. He received his first black belt
in Shotokan prior to attending college at UNC Chapel Hill. Upon
graduation Rob returned to Hickory in 2003 and received his
black belt in Ching Sai Do. In January of 2008 he attained the
rank of 4th dan.
Mr Kearns was voted MVKC's Black Belt Instructor of the Year
for both 2004 and 2005. All of Rob Kearns' training culminated in
a Sport Karate World Championship title in breaking at the
World Games in 2004.
Miss Chasity Ellis
Miss Ellis is a 4th dan black belt of Ching Sai Do. She teaches the Parent
class at the Foothills Dojo. She is both an accomplished competitor and
instructor whom has been teaching karate students for MVKC since 1999.
Chasity has a BS in Education majoring in middle grades Math & Science
from WCU. She is teaching 7th grade science at RiverBend Middle School.
We are happy to have her back on the schedule to teach weekly for MVKC!
Mr. Anthony Stafford
Mr. Anthony Stafford has been a member of Moutainview Karate for over 6
years now. He is a 2nd dan black belt. He has been helping Mr. Kearns at
the Foothills dojo.

John Helmes
John is a 2nd dan Black Belt. He is looking to start classes at the Foothills
Dojo on Tuesdays & Thursdays. He is a member of the TCT team as well as
the instructor for the TCT Team training held at the Spa on Thursdays. He
competes in breaking and weapons.

Record by Palm heeling through 15 slabs of concrete at Reed's
Karate Tournament Friday Sept 7th 2007!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris Parrish
Chris is one of our newest Black Belts. He has been assisting with the kids
classes at our Foothills dojo.
Ryan Hoyle
Ryan is a 2nd dan Black Belt and has been assisting with the kids
classes at our Foothills and Spa Dojos. He is a Junior at Fred T Ford
High School.
Trent Temple
Trent made his 1st dan Black Belt in 2006. He has been assisting the kids
classes at Foothills and has been helping with the TCT team training at the
Spa on Thursdays. He is a freshman at Hickory Christian Academy.
Anthony Donkel
Anthony is a new Black Belt in 2008. He has been assisting with the kids
classes at our Foothills Dojo and is the lead instructor of the Saturday
morning class.
