Jacob is a fun loving 8 year old who thoroughly enjoys Karate as well as
soccer, writing stories, playing with friends, and teaching all the “moves” to
his younger brother. Jacob started in Karate at preschool as a form of
exercise and to become more self-confident. Since then, he has learned to
love Karate more than his parents ever imagined. If Jacob is not in class he’
s practicing at home, teaching family members, or creating his own katas.
Karate is not all about winning and Jacob has learned to be a gracious
winner and loser. An incident in particular had Jacob sparring for 3rd and
4th place. After Jacob won, the other competitor began to cry and didn’t
shake Jacob’s hand. Jacob graciously walked over to the boy and his
parents and told him “you did a great job; it was a great match” and shook
the boy’s hand. Jacob took 3rd place at that tournament but walked away
with newfound respect from others that were bystanders and participants.
This is what Mt. View Karate Centers teaches Jacob – strength, courage,
discipline and respect.
